What are Air Nozzles and Jets?

air-nozzlesEXAIR offers a complete selection of air nozzles suited to a wide range of blowoff, cooling and drying applications. These air nozzles have been engineered to provide a strong blast of airflow while minimising air consumption and noise levels. They are available in many configurations and materials to suit the requirements of your application.


How Air Nozzles Work

Air Nozzles use the coanda effect or small directed nozzles to amplify compressed airflow 25 times or more. As illustrated on the right, compressed air (black arrows) is ejected through a series of nozzles on the outer perimeter. As the air travels along the outer wall of the nozzle, surrounding air (blue arrows) is entrained into the stream. The airstream that results is a high volume, high velocity blast of air at minimal consumption. The air is always ejected so it can vent safely, well below OSHA dead ended pressure requirements, should the nozzle end be blocked. Air Nozzle Diagram


Selecting The Right Air Nozzle

EXAIR manufactures a wide selection of Air Nozzles and Jets. To help narrow your selection, they are divided into two groups. The first group includes Air Nozzles and Jets that deliver force up to 22 ounces (624 grams) and are suitable for most applications. The second group includes Air Nozzles that produce high force up to 23 lbs (10,433 grams) where additional reach and extreme force are required. The materials available for each style are indicated.

  • Brass is suited to general purpose applications.
  • Zinc aluminium alloy is suited to general purpose applications.
  • Type 303 Stainless Steel is best for high temperatures and corrosive environments.
  • Type 316 Stainless Steel withstands high temperatures, corrosive environments, mechanical wear, and is commonly used in food processing, corrosive and pharmaceutical applications.
  • PEEK is used to replace metals in harsh environments. This engineered thermoplastic offers excellent resistance to chemicals, fatigue and high temperatures up to 320°F (160°C).

Back Blow Nozzle

EXAIR's Model 1004SS, 1006SS and 1008SS Back Blow Nozzles are engineered to clean inside of pipe, tube, hose or channel. An array of holes provide a forceful 360 degree airflow to clear out coolant, chips or debris created from machining processes.

Standard Force Air Nozzles

EXAIR's standard force air nozzles deliver up to 22 ounces (624 grams) of force, making them suitable for most blowoff, drying and cooling applications. The air nozzles use a small amount of compressed air to entrain large volumes of surrounding room air. The award winning Super Air Nozzles have been engineered to provide the best performance. They are extremely efficient, producing a high thrust, concentrated stream of high velocity airflow with low sound levels and air consumption. The compressed air is ejected through holes located in the recessed grooves that cannot be blocked or dead ended.

High Force Air Nozzles

Some applications require extremely high force with extensive reach. EXAIR's High Power Safety Air Nozzles, 2" High Power Super Air Nozzles, Large Super Air Nozzles and Super Air Nozzle Clusters provide incredibly strong blowing force. They are ideal for part ejection as well as blowoff, cooling and drying applications. Now, EXAIR has engineered Large Super Air Nozzles that put the blowing capability of multiple nozzles into one single air nozzle. Hard-hitting force is measured in pounds, not ounces. All meet OSHA noise level and pressure requirements.

Swivel Fittings

Swivel Fittings

EXAIR's Swivel Fittings make it easy to adjust the aim of the Air Nozzles and Jets. Correct placement of the blowing angle can help optimize performance, reduce noise levels and improve efficiency. The Swivel Fittings permit a movement of 25 degrees. Construction is Type 303 Stainless Steel and Type 316 Stainless Steel.

Electronic Flow Control (EFC)

EXAIR's EFC is an electronic flow control that dramatically reduces compressed air costs by turning off the compressed air when no part is present. This minimises compressed air use for blowoff, drying, cooling, conveying and static elimination operations. The EFC combines a photoelectric sensor with a timing control that limits compressed air use by turning it off when no part is present. Visit the EFC page for more information.
